The tach and sensor on my 10ER Shopsmith are mounted with magnets so I could remove it easily and not damage the finish or have to drill holes in the 10ER. I shined up the side of the pulley on a wire wheel and then painted half of it flat black. I later changed the motor on the 10ER to a variable speed dc motor and mounted the tach on the motor control box.
